Emily Wells is the Conservation Program Manager for Conservation Farms and Ranches, The Nature Conservancy’s related entity managing California’s Staten Island. She first started working on Staten as a temporary avian technician in 2013 and left to pursue her masters degree in Range and Wildlife Management at Texas A&M Kingsville where she studied the wintering ecology of the Gulf Coast subpopulation of Sandhill Cranes. Once her studies were complete, she came back to Staten Island where she helped coordinate the farming and conservation land management, conduct research into waterbird use of different crops and management techniques, and help manage projects aimed at improving the conservation value and resiliency of Staten Island into the future.
