The Redding Christmas Bird Count – Can Anything Be Learned From “Citizen Science”?
Wintu Audubon presents Randy Bush and Bill Oliver discussing real population trends gleaned from 43 years of count data. The Redding Christmas Bird Count has run continuously since 1975, the same year our Wintu Chapter of the National Audubon Society was formed. Randy Bush, Math Instructor at Shasta College, and Bill Oliver, Compiler for the Redding Count, have discovered real changes in the wintering populations from what seemed, at first, to be meaningless ups and downs.
Red Bluff Christmas Bird Count
This long-running Christmas bird count was resumed four years ago under the able leadership of Karen Scheurermann (karens@gmail.com). Contact Karen if you have a preferred area. Assemble at the Holiday Market, 460 Antelope Blvd, Red Bluff, for assignments. Dinner and compilation will be announced there.
Redding Christmas Bird Count
We have compiled 41 years of continuous records from this grand daddy of the local counts that began in 1976 in its current location. Centered near Keswick Dam it stretches from Whiskeytown Lake in the West to Shasta College in the East, and from Shasta Dam in the North to Clear Creek in the South. Assignments will be given in front of the main entrance to the Redding Civic Center. We will assemble at dusk at Lulu’s Eating and Drinking Establishment, 2230 Pine Street, Redding (530-243-6251) for dinner and compilation.
