Clover Creek Preserve Walk

What birds of prey will surprise us at Clover Creek Preserve?  Merlin or American Kestrel? Red-tailed or Red-shouldered Hawk?  Northern Harrier or White-tailed Kite?  Sharp-shinned or Cooper’s Hawk?  Join us at the preserve on Saturday, November 11, at 7:30 am to find out which birds of prey will appear in the area. Clover Creek Preserve is a 128-acre open space in east Redding that features grasslands, blue oaks, and a 6.7 acre lake.  Meet at the preserve, 3705 Shasta View Drive, at the main parking lot.  We will spend about three hours walking about two miles on a paved trail.  There is a port-a-potty located in the parking lot and a full restroom at the nearby Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers Club.

What birds of prey will surprise us at Clover Creek Preserve? Merlin or American Kestrel? Red-tailed or Red-shouldered Hawk? Northern Harrier or White-tailed Kite? Sharp-shinned or Cooper’s Hawk? The theme for this month’s adventure in our city parks is “Redding’s Raptors.” This will be the fourth in a series of eight walks, one per month from October through May. Join Wintu Audubon Society at the preserve on Thursday, January 12th, at 9:00 am to find out which birds of prey are common in our area. Clover Creek Preserve is a 128-acre open space in east Redding that features grasslands, blue oaks, and a 6.7 acre lake. Meet at the preserve, 3705 Shasta View Drive, at the main parking lot. This preserve within the Redding city limits has a large, permanent pond with a marsh of cattails and reeds, shallow winter pools and uplands planted with oaks. We hope to see grassland species such as the Northern Harrier, Western Meadowlark, Say’s Phoebe and Western Bluebird, as well as a variety of ducks.

Meet at 8am at the preserve, 3705 Shasta View Drive, at the main parking lot. We will spend about two hours walking less than two miles on a paved trail. There is a port-a-potty located in the parking lot and a full restroom at the nearby Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers Club.

Second Saturday Bird Walk at Clover Creek Preserve

Clover Creek Preserve offers 128 accessible acres of grassland, mixed oak woodland, and a 6.7 acre lake. Winter migrants should be settling in to this inviting habitat. Meet trip leader Dan Greaney for this half-day trip at the preserve parking area, 3705 Shasta View Drive, Redding, at 8am.

Second Saturday Bird Walk at Clover Creek Preserve

Clover Creek Preserve has a large, permanent pond with surrounding cattails and reed marsh, shallow winter pools and uplands planted to oaks. Plan to see shorebirds as well as species rare to urban areas such as Western Meadowlark, Western Bluebird, and Say’s Phoebe. The Great-tailed Grackle has expanded its range northward to include Shasta County and inhabits the cattail marsh. Meet your trip leader at the preserve near the south end of Shasta View Drive for this ½-day trip.
