Local Weekday Bird Walk at Mary Lake

Join leader Linda Aldrich, 223-5341 at the Lakeside Drive trail head for this stroll around Mary Lake in west Redding. We will walk the 1-mile, paved trail around the lake with a side trip to the Old Catholic Cemetery. Many varieties of birds call this small lake their home: Great Blue Herons, Double-crested Cormorants, Belted Kingfishers, several duck species and the occasional raptor.

This small lake in west Redding yields a variety of birds in spite of the drought in recent years. Last fall a Pectoral Sandpiper was a surprising visitor and a Eurasian Wigeon spent much of the summer there. We will walk the 1-mile paved trail around the lake with a side trip to the Old Catholic Cemetery. Assemble at Lakeside Drive at the trail head to meet your leader Bill Oliver.

Mary Lake is a small lake in west Redding which yields a surprising variety of birds in spite of the drought in recent years. We will walk the ¾-mile, paved trail around the lake with a side trip to the Old Catholic Cemetery. Assemble in the parking lot on the south side of the Redding Civic Auditorium to meet your leader Linda Aldrich or join the group at Mary Lake.

David Bogener will present species occurrence records collected at Mary Lake over the last 25 years.  Photographs of each of the 100+ species will be displayed in decreasing order of occurrence.  Habitats, methods, and equipment will be briefly discussed.
