Our regular ½-day bird walk will again be switched from Shasta College to a well-watered site—this time the Anderson River Park. This gem of riparian habitat has ponds, marsh and oak woodlands accessible by many groomed trails. All birding skill levels are welcome. We will assemble at the amphitheater in the park.

2nd Saturday Bird Walk at John Reginato River Acess Trail
Trip leader, Larry Jordan, had the foresight to preview the Shasta College Campus, our regular fall walk. He reports that all the water sources are dry and birdlife is sparse. So we have switched the outing to the John Reginato River Access Trail. This trail leaves the parking lot of the John Reginato Boat Launch on the west side of the Sacramento River off South Bonnyview Road. Good views of the Sacramento River are afforded on this short trail as it traverses a mixed riparian woodland. We should see a variety of fall migrants such as Willow Flycatcher, Nashville, Yellow and Orange-crowned Warblers and possibly a few recently arrived winter residents. Meet at the parking lot on the south side of the Redding Civic Auditorium for this ½-day trip that is open to the public. Map of trail.
Regular Second Saturday Bird Walk at Shasta College
Now that most wintering ducks have moved on and migrating passerines are passing through, it’s time once again to shift our birding to the Shasta College Campus. The oak woodlands, wastewater treatment pond, riparian, and fields support a wide variety of species. Meet in Shasta College’s north parking lot for this ½ day trip that is open-to-the-public.
