Turtle Bay Bird Sanctuary

Yellow Warbler

Join Wintu Audubon Society for a walk on a mile of the Sacramento River Trail through the Turtle Bay Bird Sanctuary. Spring migration, the theme for this month’s walk, will be revving up as swallows, warblers, and orioles begin to stream northward to their breeding grounds. We will search the trees for their brilliant yellows and oranges. Meet at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, in front of Branch House Riverfront Bistro near the main entrance to Turtle Bay Museum. We will spend two to three hours walking slightly over one mile of paved trail. Bathrooms can be accessed at Turtle Bay Museum. Contact trip leader Tricia Ford at triciathebirdnerd@gmail.com for more information.

Mary Lake Birdwalk

“Warblers and Wood Ducks” is the theme of the bird walk at this gem of a park in west Redding. Meet on Thursday, March 9, at 9:00 at the bulletin board at the corner of Lakeside Drive and Mary Lake Drive. We will spend about an hour and a half walking one mile on a cement path. There are no bathrooms. This is the sixth in a series of eight walks, one per month from October through May, exploring City of Redding parks and trails for opportunities to see birds. If it is raining at the site at the start time of the walk, the event will be canceled. Contact triciathebirdnerd@gmail.com for more information.

Gold Dredge Field Trip

Nashville Warbler
We will do a hike in and out trip to the clear Creek Greenway via the Gold Dredge Tailhead located on the south side of Clear Creek Road, approximately 2.5 miles west of Highway 273 just south of the City of Redding. The Greenway is a model example of habitat restoration both aquatic and upland. It is managed by the BLM and extends west from the Gold Dredge Tailhead 12 miles to Horsetown Clear Creek Preserve. We will target Fall Migrants and perhaps some early Fall Chinook in the Creek. There are pit toilets at the trailhead. Meet your trip leader Tim Kashuba at 7:00 am. Bring water, snacks, hiking boots and wear layers.
