Wintu Audubon Presents Birding Colombia

Colombia is a country of over 49 million people, most of whom live at very high elevations. Over 2,000 species of birds have been recorded there, 87 of which are endemic to that country. Harvey and Jeannette Carroll traveled to Colombia in January 2017 and enjoyed seeing over 500 species of birds. Twenty-seven of them were endemics. The geography, people and flora and fauna of Colombia are fascinating. The Carrolls will present a cross-section of the beautiful birds they encountered plus a discussion of the country itself.

The Ordinary Extraordinary Junco

Back by popular demand: Parts of “The Ordinary Extraordinary Junco” were presented at our meeting in January of 2014. People were intrigued as to what would be on the rest of this DVD by a lab in Bloomington, Indiana that is engaged in “The Junco Project”. We’ll re-see the introductory chapter to prepare for chapters on diversification south of the Mexican border and evolution in action in the campus juncos at UC-San Diego, then end with a summary on what we can learn from research on juncos. Linda Aldrich, Wintu Audubon Program Chair, will provide a brief introduction. Join us for some surprising facts about our familiar winter friends, the juncos.

Birds of Mary Lake

David Bogener will present species occurrence records collected at Mary Lake over the last 25 years.  Photographs of each of the 100+ species will be displayed in decreasing order of occurrence.  Habitats, methods, and equipment will be briefly discussed.
